Connect OVHcloud mail to Mailbind
OVHcloud’s MX Plan mailboxes answer on two interchangeable host names. Either is fine; what matters is using the full address as the username.
OVHcloud MX Plan IMAP and SMTP settings
| Server | Host | Port | Encryption |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incoming (IMAP) | imap.mail.ovh.net or ssl0.ovh.net | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing (SMTP) | smtp.mail.ovh.net or ssl0.ovh.net | 465 | SSL/TLS |
OVHcloud documents both names for each side, and ssl0.ovh.net is the one Mailbind’s preset uses because it works for incoming and outgoing alike. The username is the full email address with the password set for that address.
Which OVHcloud mail product you have
OVHcloud sells several mail products and they do not share servers. MX Plan is the shared mail service that comes with a domain, and these are its settings. Email Pro and Hosted Exchange are separate products with their own hostnames, and a Zimbra Starter mailbox is yet another.
If the settings above are refused and your mailbox is managed somewhere other than the Web Cloud section of the OVHcloud control panel, you are probably on one of the others. The control panel shows which product a domain’s mail belongs to, and OVHcloud publishes the hostnames for each.
- MX Plan addresses are created per domain, with a password per address.
- A redirection is not a mailbox: there is nothing to connect until an address has storage.
- OVHcloud also documents 587 with STARTTLS for outgoing mail in its Thunderbird guide, which is useful when a network blocks 465.
Connect OVHcloud to Mailbind
- 1Sign in to Mailbind and choose “Connect a mailbox”.
- 2Type the address. Mailbind looks up the domain and names OVHcloud itself when the records say so; otherwise pick OVHcloud from the list.
- 3Enter your name as you want it to appear on outgoing mail, then enter the password set for that email address in the OVHcloud control panel.
- 4Check the server settings. They are filled in from the preset, and you can edit either side if your account is on a different host.
- 5Press “Test and connect”. Mailbind opens IMAP and SMTP before it saves anything, so a wrong password or a blocked port is a message on the form rather than a mailbox that silently never syncs.
- 6Name the mailbox for the sidebar, pick a colour, and the first sync begins immediately.
Mailbind only connects to the four ports email uses — 993 and 143 for IMAP, 465 and 587 for SMTP — and refuses private or loopback addresses. If your provider asks for a different port, it cannot be used here.
Two addresses, one domain, and the right sender
An OVHcloud domain usually ends up with several addresses — contact@, facturation@, your own name — and a freelancer answers all of them. Connect each as its own mailbox and Mailbind keeps them in one list while keeping the senders apart: the reply to a message that arrived at facturation@ leaves from facturation@, through OVHcloud’s own SMTP server, so SPF and DKIM alignment for the domain is untouched.
Where two addresses genuinely share one mailbox — a catch-all, or an alias OVHcloud points at an existing account — add the second address to the mailbox in Mailbind and verify it with the code, and the same rule applies.
If it does not connect
- “Invalid credentials”: the OVHcloud account (NIC handle) password was used instead of the mailbox password.
- Refused on both hosts: the mailbox may be on Email Pro or Hosted Exchange rather than MX Plan.
- Sending refused on 465: use 587 with STARTTLS.
- A new domain whose DNS has not finished moving may answer intermittently until the MX records settle.
Common questions
Should I use ssl0.ovh.net or imap.mail.ovh.net?
Either — OVHcloud documents both. ssl0.ovh.net has the advantage of being the same name for incoming and outgoing mail.
Do these settings work for Email Pro or Hosted Exchange?
No. Those are separate OVHcloud products with their own hostnames. This page covers MX Plan, the shared mail service that comes with a domain.
Can I connect several addresses from the same domain?
Yes, one mailbox each. Replies then leave from whichever address the message arrived at.
Can Mailbind see my password?
It is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is stored, never written to a log and never sent back to a browser. Nobody can read it again, including you.
