Mailbind

Connect Infomaniak mail to Mailbind

Infomaniak uses one hostname for everything and asks for a password generated per device, which is a better idea than it first looks.

Infomaniak asks for a password generated per device, so revoking one cuts off that client and nothing else.

Infomaniak IMAP and SMTP settings

Infomaniak incoming and outgoing mail server settings
ServerHostPortEncryption
Incoming (IMAP)mail.infomaniak.com993SSL/TLS (implicit)
Outgoing (SMTP)mail.infomaniak.com587STARTTLS
Outgoing (SMTP), alternativemail.infomaniak.com465SSL/TLS (implicit)

Infomaniak recommends 993 for incoming mail and describes 587 with STARTTLS as the standard for authenticated sending, with 465 as a secure alternative. One hostname serves both directions, and the username is the full email address.

A password per device

Infomaniak asks you to create a dedicated password for each device or application rather than reusing your Infomaniak login. You can create as many as you like, they are shown once and cannot be retrieved afterwards, and revoking one cuts off that one client without touching the others.

That is exactly the right shape for a web client: generate one for Mailbind, and if you ever stop using Mailbind, revoke that password and nothing else changes.

  1. 1Sign in to the Infomaniak manager and open the Mail service, then the address you want to connect.
  2. 2Create a dedicated application or device password for that address.
  3. 3Copy it immediately — Infomaniak shows it once.
  4. 4Use it in Mailbind as the password for both incoming and outgoing mail.

Connect Infomaniak to Mailbind

  1. 1Sign in to Mailbind and choose “Connect a mailbox”.
  2. 2Type the address. Mailbind looks up the domain and names Infomaniak itself when the records say so; otherwise pick Infomaniak from the list.
  3. 3Enter your name as you want it to appear on outgoing mail, then paste the device password you generated for this address.
  4. 4Check the server settings. They are filled in from the preset, and you can edit either side if your account is on a different host.
  5. 5Press “Test and connect”. Mailbind opens IMAP and SMTP before it saves anything, so a wrong password or a blocked port is a message on the form rather than a mailbox that silently never syncs.
  6. 6Name the mailbox for the sidebar, pick a colour, and the first sync begins immediately.

Mailbind only connects to the four ports email uses — 993 and 143 for IMAP, 465 and 587 for SMTP — and refuses private or loopback addresses. If your provider asks for a different port, it cannot be used here.

ik.me, custom domains and Swiss hosting

Infomaniak’s free personal addresses on ik.me, ikmail.com and etik.com use the same servers as a paid mailbox on your own domain, so the instructions on this page cover both. Infomaniak hosts in Switzerland, which some customers choose deliberately; connecting it to Mailbind adds a synchronised copy in the European Union, and that is worth knowing if your reason for being at Infomaniak is jurisdictional.

Infomaniak warns that disabling encryption or changing the documented ports causes errors; Mailbind will not let you use an unencrypted port anyway, because only 993, 143, 465 and 587 are permitted and the first and third are the encrypted ones you want.

  • Aliases on an Infomaniak mailbox arrive in the same place and can be added as verified send-as addresses.
  • Infomaniak's server-side rules keep running; Mailbind's rules run on top of them.
  • The folder set maps cleanly, including the Junk and Trash folders Infomaniak creates.

If it does not connect

  • “Invalid credentials”: the Infomaniak account login was used instead of a device password. Infomaniak's own support says a wrong password is by far the commonest cause.
  • A device password that cannot be found again: they are shown once. Create a new one.
  • Sending refused on 587: try 465, which Infomaniak documents as the alternative.
  • An address that was just moved between Infomaniak products may need a fresh device password.

Common questions

What is an Infomaniak device password?

A password generated for one application, separate from your Infomaniak login. You can create several, revoke them individually, and they are displayed only once.

Do free ik.me addresses work?

Yes. They use the same hostname and ports as a paid mailbox on a custom domain.

Which outgoing port does Infomaniak prefer?

587 with STARTTLS, which it calls the standard for authenticated submission. 465 with implicit TLS is documented as an alternative.

Will my replies go out from this address?

Yes. Mailbind sends a reply through the account that received the message, using that account’s own SMTP server, so the address your correspondent already knows is the one that answers.
