Connect o2switch mail to Mailbind
o2switch hosting gives you cPanel mailboxes, and the server name is the one piece of information nobody has to hand. It is in the welcome email.
o2switch IMAP and SMTP settings
| Server | Host | Port | Encryption |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incoming (IMAP) | your-node.o2switch.net | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing (SMTP) | your-node.o2switch.net | 465 | SSL/TLS |
o2switch documents the encrypted settings as the recommended ones: 993 for IMAP and 465 for SMTP, both with SSL/TLS and authentication required. The username is the full email address and the password is that address’s own.
Finding your server name
o2switch puts every account on a named node, and the hostname follows the pattern node-name.o2switch.net. It is in the “Bienvenue chez o2switch” welcome email and in your customer area, and it is the same name for incoming and outgoing mail.
o2switch specifically recommends using that node name rather than mail.yourdomain.tld. Using your own domain over an encrypted connection requires an SSL certificate issued for that mail subdomain, and without one every client shows a certificate warning. The node name already has a valid certificate, and it keeps working if you host your DNS elsewhere.
- 1Open the o2switch welcome email, or your customer area, and note the node name.
- 2Create or find the email address in cPanel, under Email Accounts, and set its password.
- 3In Mailbind, pick “Another provider” and enter node-name.o2switch.net for both servers.
- 4Use 993 with SSL for incoming mail and 465 with SSL for outgoing, with the full address as the username.
Mailbind refuses unencrypted ports, so the plain alternatives o2switch documents — 143 for IMAP and 25 or 26 for SMTP — are not available here. The encrypted pair is the one its own documentation recommends anyway.
Connect o2switch to Mailbind
- 1Sign in to Mailbind and choose “Connect a mailbox”.
- 2Type the address. Mailbind looks up the domain and names o2switch itself when the records say so; otherwise pick o2switch from the list.
- 3Enter your name as you want it to appear on outgoing mail, then enter the password you set for that address in cPanel.
- 4Check the server settings. They are filled in from the preset, and you can edit either side if your account is on a different host.
- 5Press “Test and connect”. Mailbind opens IMAP and SMTP before it saves anything, so a wrong password or a blocked port is a message on the form rather than a mailbox that silently never syncs.
- 6Name the mailbox for the sidebar, pick a colour, and the first sync begins immediately.
Mailbind only connects to the four ports email uses — 993 and 143 for IMAP, 465 and 587 for SMTP — and refuses private or loopback addresses. If your provider asks for a different port, it cannot be used here.
cPanel mail, and what that means in practice
o2switch is shared hosting with cPanel, so your mailboxes are created and managed there rather than in a dedicated mail product. Each address has storage and a password of its own; a forwarder has neither and cannot be connected. Default addresses — the catch-all — are real mailboxes and connect normally.
Because the whole domain's mail lives on the hosting account, it is common to end up with half a dozen addresses on one domain and nobody reading three of them. Connecting each one to Mailbind costs one mailbox slot each and puts them in the same list, with the sender rule keeping the replies straight.
If it does not connect
- A certificate warning: you used mail.yourdomain.tld without a certificate for it. Use the node name instead.
- “Invalid credentials”: the cPanel account password was used rather than the email address's own.
- Nothing on 465: confirm the node name is spelled exactly as in the welcome email.
- An address created minutes ago may need a moment before it answers.
Common questions
What is my o2switch mail server name?
Your hosting node, in the form node-name.o2switch.net. It is in the welcome email and in your customer area, and it serves both incoming and outgoing mail.
Can I use mail.mydomain.com instead?
Only with an SSL certificate issued for it. o2switch recommends the node name precisely to avoid the certificate errors that follow otherwise.
Which password does the mailbox use?
The one set for that email address in cPanel. The cPanel account password is not it.
Will my replies go out from this address?
Yes. Mailbind sends a reply through the account that received the message, using that account’s own SMTP server, so the address your correspondent already knows is the one that answers.
