Gmail says my password is wrong — use an app password
Google blocks normal passwords for IMAP. Create a 16-character app password and use that.
Updated October 27, 2026
Why your normal password fails
Google turns off "less secure" sign-in for IMAP. Mailbind needs an app password: a 16-character code that only works for mail and can be revoked any time.
Create one
- Turn on two-step verification for your Google account if it is not on (myaccount.google.com → Security).
- Open App passwords (search for it on the Security page).
- Name it "Mailbind" and copy the 16 characters.
- In Mailbind, paste it in the password field — spaces don't matter.
Still failing?
Make sure IMAP is enabled in Gmail → Settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Google Workspace admins can also disable IMAP for the whole domain.
